First off - Congratulations to the Red Wings for their First Place finish in the regular season. It's no easy task to take the regular season crown with the grind of January Monday night 11:00 games and only 6 guys showing up. Thanks to the superb leadership of Mark Mitchell (and an envelope of cash to the refs before each game) the Wings got it done.
Monday a whole new season begins. The good news is that both the Kings and Hawks were able to squeak into the playoffs despite battling to stay out of the cellar. Stellar defensive play by Mack for the Hawks got them in, while the Kings rode the sympathy train following a letter by team captain Richards to the league begging that the team be allowed to play in the playoffs.
The bad news is that Jeff Mitchell was traded over the break to Team 9 for a set of 4 used water bottles. Jeff will spend the playoffs at the bar where he is always a welcome guest.
For the first round remember that the game format changes from traditional win/loss to points.
Each game is worth 5 points with each period being worth points as follows:
1st period: 1 points for a win, .5 points for a tie
2nd period: 1 point for a win, .5 points for a tie
3rd period: 1 point for a win, .5 points for a tie
Game: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie
Same O/T format as the regular season. Penalty points for those who spend a lot of time in the box are reset, but have lower thresholds.
Good luck to all teams (except the Wings, Whalers, and Nords)
